So just what is confusion?

Chambers' Twentieth Century dictionary says of confusion:

"the state of being confused: disorder: shame: overthrow: perdition: perplexity: embarassment: turmoil"

We assert we are not causing 'disorder' to internet users; or 'shame' to internet users. We are not trying to 'overthrow' or cause 'perdition', 'perplexity', 'embarassment' or 'turmoil' to internet users. In fact, we believe there is no evidence that such confusion exists. There is however, evidence that those people who should know better are making mistakes in their transactions over the internet.

Two outstanding examples of such mistakes occurred after the domain dispute began.

The first example occurred when we picked up a misdirected e-mail from the firm of solicitors, withheld on the evening of 20th June 2001. withheld are a firm of solicitors who act on behalf of the other FSA. The e-mail was bounced back in the standard way. There then ensued a bizarre series of e-mails followed by a phone call about the misdirected e-mail and the fact it contained confidential, legally sensitive information. We complied with all of withheld's requests on the matter. We were eventually asked to e-mail them confirming our actions. A copy of that e-mail to withheld is provided

The second example is from their own Grandfathering department. It is in the form of an email which was sent to various FSA members on the 19th June 2001 inviting them to a workshop on the 'Grandfathering of Firms and Individuals'. It came to our attention on 26th June when, again, we bounced a misdirected e-mail back to the sender. The sender e-mailed us back thanking us for pointing out his mistake and mentioning that he thought the address looked wrong at the time. We e-mailed back asking 'what address?' and the gentleman kindly faxed us a copy. The pertinent parts of the other FSA's e-mail are reproduced
