The Dixon Family

John Dixon

  b. c. 1850 (51 in the 1901 census) in Sunderland, Co Durham. Was a joiner in an iron works factory living in Orchard Street, Birtley, in 1901 census. Picture. Lived at Orchard Street Cottage, Birtley in 1881. Buried at Birtley churchyard. There’s a sort of family plot there. Used to cut the grass of his own grave!

  They had  
Alice   d. 1975-79. She married Oliver Thompson. They had two children a boy and a girl.Oliver was a ship’s broker. He took the name Gaynor Thompson on marrying Alice so the name of Gaynor wouldn’t die out.
Jack   b. c. 1900. D. C. 1918. He was killed when his motorcycle collided with a horse and cart.
Nora   b. 1908 d. 1958. Married Robert Baxter. His father and grandfather had a transport business. They lived initially in Birtley and then moved to Sedgley. They had a daughter, Maureen born in 1934. She married and they adopted a boy and a girl as Maureen was unable to have children due to contracting peritonitis as some point.

Henry (Harry) Baddiley   He was a painter and paper hanger. Moved to Melborne, Derbyshire. Died in 1953
  They had  
Henry (Harry)   b. c. 1910. D. 1970. He married Winifred Toone who came from a market gardening family. It’s believed they had three children
  A dental mechanic. Lived in Ockbrook, Derbys. He married and had a couple of children
Peggy   Died aged 40
Maisy (May)   Married John Mussen, a farmer. Lived near Willington. They had two children.
John   He was a carpenter who made coffins. Believed to had married and had a son.
Alice   Married a Mick (?) who was a farm labourer. Believed to have had around five children

Annie Mary Dixon   b. abt 1875/6 at Craster d. Abt 1932. Died of cancer
  They lived in Birtley and had two children. Jennie, and Jack (John). He was born around 1907 and married Phyllis Her father was the landlord of the Bluebell pub in Melbourne. They retired to Warkworth. Believed to have had a son. Jennie died of pneumonia
Jack (John) Dodds   He was a labourer making roads. Was killed in an accident whilst working
