This website is dedicated to the genealogy of Gelsthorpe and associated families mainly from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It is an ongoing project and will be added to as and when new data becomes available. Throughout this website, I refer to the family name as GELSTHORPE but, of course, it has many variants, e.g. GILSTHORPE, GILTHORPE etc. A list of known variants can be found here:

The data has been gleaned from various sources - some is confirmed, some is deduced and some is apocryphal so it's always best to double check yourself. However, there's probably an element of truth in it all. References are provided where applicable.

It also includes information on Derbyshire strays in Dorset taken from the 1871 and 1891 Censuses. Click on the links on the left. Note - this is our transcription of this census and therefore could (and probably does!) contain errors. Always check the original documents.

Feel free to browse the site by selecting the buttons on the left and investigate the data for personal purposes. However, do remember that it is copyrighted so no blatant plagiarism please
