b. 29.02.1876. 1901 census shows him as being an Assistant Colliery Heap Keeper in Birtley. Died 24.10.1971. He was a Church Lay Reader. His picture is here. Went to work at the pits aged 12. Was kicked in the eye by a pit pony. Became a check-weighman at a colliery at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea around 1913. In 1917 moved to Derby. May have worked for British Cellulose making artificial silk after moving to Derby.
